GI Tag kandangies - Pride of Chettinad-Karaikudi
After a long wait the government of India has given a GI for our Karaikudi kandangi sarees recently. GI tag is known as ( Geographical Indication ) which is given to a particular product which is very famous only on that particular region by the government of India to promote and keep the art alive. It is a happy moment for all us. Yeaaa!!! People who are enthusiastic in Handloom and who are collecting sarees this is one of must have weave.
These sarees was worn by local village people of chettinad-Karaikudi in a traditional style pinnkosuvam ( that is the pleats in the back side ) 80-100 years ago. Now it has got a global reputation worldwide for this authentic Chettinad weave.
These saree are famous for its chex and stripes, vibrant multi colour and earthy combo. As this saree is completely handspun handloom there may be some irregularities and missing thread and thread joining which adds charm and make the saree unique.

Length : 5.4 meters ( without blouse )
